    The Museum’s commitment to photography extends back to 1905, when the Portland Society of Photographic Art initiated a regular program of exhibitions. Today, a dedicated space in the Jubitz Center for Modern and Contemporary Art ensures that photography is on view at all times. The collection numbers some nine thousand photographs.

    Photography. Visitors to the Museum are welcome and encouraged to take photographs or video for personal, noncommercial use. Some photography may be restricted as indicated by a “No Camera” symbol on the gallery wall. Tripods, selfie sticks, and additional lighting are prohibited inside the Museum galleries at all times.

    Lights and stands must be a safe distance away from any artwork and must not obstruct any passages or exits. Light stands must be stable or weighed down by sandbags.
