The HOYA R72 infrared filter. This filter is a traditional screw-in filter that is attached to the front of your lens and blocks out light with a wavelength under 720nm, (hence the name R72) and enables the camera to record only the infrared light. Like most screw-in filters, they come in a variety of different sizes and you need a specific filter appropriate to fit the …

How the R72 INFRARED filter works. The R72 INFRARED filter does not let any wavelengths before 740nm pass through, allowing only light in the high red area and infrared spectrum to enter the lens. From 760nm to 860nm, the light transmission rate is 95%. As infrared light is exclusively in the red color spectrum, all areas in images also appear in various red tones.

Hoya R72 Infrared Filter Review – Ticket to Surreal Photography!?

    https://red-dot-geek.com/hoya-r72-infrared-filter-review/
The Hoya R72 is what I call a “daylight filter”, probably useless at night. Technically, it still works at night, but it will require an insane amount of artificial IR light. Still, this is one very special filter that allows you to have a peek into the invisible world. Post-processing is the only downside of it.

    1. Speed – the R72 was consistently about 3 stops faster than the RM90. Throughout the morning I was shooting at f11. With the RM90 in place exposures were 2 to 3 seconds at ISO 1600. With the R72 exposures were 1/4th to 1/3rd of a second at the same ISO. In either case – a tripod was a necessity. 2.
