- AEL stands for Auto Exposure Lock. If you have the menu option turned on, the exposure will not change as long as you depress the button. AFL stands for Auto Focus Lock and again, depending on which menu items you have turned on can also lock the focus so you can recompose a shot. As pointed out, it's all in the users manual.
