The summit of the line is adjacent to the S entrance to the tunnel. The tunnel crosses the boundary between the parishes of Cavers (to the N) and Castleton (to the S).

- Whitrope Tunnel, Scottish Borders. Looking north from the south end, a faint speck of light can be seen from the far end over 1000m away. Curved at each end, the rest of the tunnel is straight. The remains of down pipes can be seen on the the arch. Since the tunnel was built, over 400 gallons of water pours in each minute.

A few minutes before this I'd been on the footbridge at Stobs taking a photo of this loco and carriage approaching and had an exchange with a gentleman walking his dog on the track further up the line towards Shankend.
