    Either don't cut off body parts at all. If you have too, shoot in this form.. headshot.. head and shoulders. half ...waist and above. 3/4.. shin and above. Try your best to never crop off arms and head. If you plan to include the feet, include the whole foot.

    Just a side note to add what folks have contributed so far. Careful when it comes to including hands and/or feet in a portrait. I've seen some absolutely great portraits with bony, veined hands and feet included that pretty much ruined the picture. Hands and feet can be tricky and often emphasise a persons age.
