    The history of digital photography began with Eugene F. Lally of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, who in 1961 was trying to figure out how to digitize light signals so that astronauts could take better images and thus better ascertain their position when out in space.

    Steven Sasson, an engineer at Eastman Kodak built the first recorded digital camera in 1975 using the CCD from Fairchild Semiconductor. It was a working prototype of a camera, not a commercial variant. It had 4kg, it could capture image of 100 x 100 pixels and needed 23 seconds to make an image and record it on tape.
