- Black would a good chocie, but you will feel quite depressed working in the studio. Amazing how dark it is without any reflected light bouncing around. As others have said, white would be a good choice for portraiture. Might save on a reflector or two. I would go with a medium gray (grey?). Perhaps something approximating an 18% gray card.

If you paint them anything but black, at some point you'd want to shoot low key and keep the contrast down and you won't be able to do it because the light is bouncing all over the place and is lowering the contrast.
