    As far as the hazy look, well that's another matter -- it looks like the sun was to the front of the camera at camera left. That could have introduced light coming from the side which is a cause of flare in images, and a filter can really "blow up" flare from unwanted light. And, if you were not using a lens hood, you were wide open to the problem.
