The SU-4 is powered by the batteries on the flash. So don't leave the flash mounted on it beyond your session. It works perfectly on Matrix Balanced Fill Flash with the SB-28 as demonstrated above, with the SB-25 as I tested later, and with the SB-27, SB-26, SB-25, SB-24, SB-23, SB-22s, SB-22, SB-21B, SB-20, SB-16B and SB-15 speedlights according to the manual.

NIKON SU4 Remote Flash Controller : Electronics

I've tested the SU-4 in a set-up with a SB-600 in slave mode triggered by D700 pop-up as commander and a Nikon SB-28 in manual mode hooked up with the SU-4. The SU-4 fires no matter which direction the photo-sensor is pointed to. It seems like SU-4 is sensitive enough to pick up reflections even when the sensor is not directly in LOS contact.

Nikon SU-4 Wireless Flash Trigger Review

    http://www.nikondigital.org/reviews/su-4.htm
The Nikon SU-4 wireless flash controller has been a real workhorse for photographers who need to control their lighting but are on the go and can't use wires or full studio lighting. The SU-4 has been especially important since Nikon removed the wireless flash capability when they introduced the SB-28 and discontinued the SB-26. That was great when …

    https://www.adorama.com/nksu4.html
The SU-4 is primarily the nikon way of firing the old film era flashes, that do not have a built in slave. It is nothing more than an on-off switch. The new cls system has a bunch of pre flashes that tell the sb910 to not only fire, but also the exact ratio of fill light desired for the shot.Your d7000 most likely can sync your 910 and an su-4 equipped older nikon TTL flash in standard …
