    Avedon usually used very tight apertures to get the most depth of field from his images. Keep in mind that depth of field is affected by sensor or film size. All other elements being equal, a bigger sensor means less depth of field. I chose an aperture of f/8.

    His photos caught the attention of Alexey Brodovitch, the art director of Harper’s Bazaar. By 1946, Avedon had his own studio and became the chief photographer for Harper’s. By the 1950s, Avedon grew tired of shooting outdoor, daylight photos and began working solely from his studio with an emphasis in the strobe lighting technique.

    Avedon quit Harper’s Bazaar in 1965 and joined Vogue where he worked for more than 20years. In 1992, he became the first staff photographer at the New Yorker where his portraiture redefined the aesthetic of the magazine. He also ran a commercial studio and is widely credited with erasing the line between “art” and “commercial” photography.
