- ALL of the standing portraits are not post mortem. Even the posing stands seen in many of these photos were used to keep the subjects still during the long exposures of the time. They in in no way could hold up the "dead" (excuse the pun) weight of a dead person. Similarly, weird eyes or poses do not a post mortem make.
