Fine vs. Superfine. Dec 4, 2005. I'm new to the Canon digital camera line, having just bought an SD400 to complement my Nikon 5400. I notice than in Fine mode my 1gb SD card should give me about 700 photos at 5mp, but in Superfine mode it drops to about 350 pictures. I understand that this is due to the difference in the amount of compression ...

Fine and SuperFine is the equivalent of saying a JPEG with medium or low compression strength. You would notice this as noise in some respects, artifact chunking in extreme examples. The resolution is the same (X pixels by Y pixels), the lossy compression is the difference. Okay - I confess to some confusion here.

Fine vs Superfine Post Processing - Digital Photography Review

Fine vs Superfine Post Processing. Oct 12, 2009. Everyones probably aware that Canon opted to remove the Superfine jpeg compression in their new cameras including the S90 and the G11. It seems some posts have compared IQ between fine and superfine and seemed to find almost no IQ difference between the two compression settings.

Consider buying a nice big 4gb or 8gb SD card and you won't have to worry about filling your memory card after a weekend's worth of photography. Someday you might want to show those photos to your family or whoever, and if you copy them to disc or make a slideshow out of them, you could display them on your TV.

So it looks like fine should be a good setting. since I'm sure all it does is jpeg compress it a tad, since a superfine pic was about 1.8 megs and a fine was 1.3, doesn't look like it's that much. I do like the picture jump though going to fine, im using a sandisk ultra II 512 card and get 195 shots in superfine, fine jumps to 350.

    https://photo.stackexchange.com/questions/34643/should-i-use-super-fine-or-fine-quality-setting-on-samsung-s1050-camera
I have a Samsung S1050 camera. There are three quality settings - Super Fine, Fine and Normal, which I believe relates to the JPEG compression level. I have mainly used Fine in the past, but wonder if I should be using Super Fine instead. All images are taken at the maximum supported resolution (10 megapixels).
