    I have the 40 and the 35 myself, but for the bar shoot, I would go with the 35. It is already super nice wide open, and will give you a slightly wider view. I bar shoots and then the 34 is my favorite. But I think you can go down with your shutterspeed, if the band is pretty static, I would even do a few shots at 1/100.

To do this, make sure the ISO is reasonably low (400 is usually fine) and set the aperture to get a shutter speed between 1/10 and 1/30 depending on how hyper the band is. Use the flash, set to second curtain sync, and you will get some interesting effects.
