- The Nikon D50/D40 has extremely low dark current, and 30min shots are easily doable, when guided by an off axis guider (OAG). The disadvantage of such shots is the tendency to blow out bright highlights, but when using a slower optical system this is not a big problem, was shooting, RAW, at ISO200.

As for the Z50, I use it with Backyard Nikon and I love it, although I’d still like to find an intervalometer for times when I go somewhere with a light rig and don’t want to take a PC. I’m also hoping the ASIAIR will get an update to work with the Z cameras soon.

I had last used a full-frame 35mm film SLR from 1968 to the early 2000s: a Pentax Spotmatic 35mm SLR. I have used the following Nikon DSLRs for general photography and astrophotography: D70, D7000, and D7200.
