7fps is of course better for sports photography, but the low light capabilities of the D700 is also something to take into account for sporting events indoor or at night. Frame rate and price do speak for the D300s, while the high iso capabilities and large viewfinder do …

I bought my D-700 for indoor sports photography as soon as it was available....and returned my D-300 that I had bought 2 weeks before. Now I don't know if that was the wisest decision. Although I love my D-700 because a 28mm lens is …

The D700 coupled with my 28-120 lens produces stunning wide shots. Coupled with your 50mm f1.4, you get the equivalent of a 33mm on a DX body with even less depth of field than you currently get. All your lenses will produce different results than with your D300.

For sports photography using your existing lenses, the D300 would be a good choice. The sensor is the same physical size as that on your D200, but with 12 rather than 10 MP and much better high ISO performance. Because the D700 has a full frame FX sensor, your lenses won't have the same "reach" as they do on the D200 and D300. You might need to buy a

Your D700 will yield images with very little noise up to ISO 2500. If it is high school football you are shooting, most high schools stadiums lighting at night games will require an exposure setting of approximately 1/250, f/2.8 @ ISO 1600. What about with a …

To counter this, set your camera’s settings to the following: AF-C Priority Selection to RELEASE, AF-Area Mode to DYNAMIC AREA AF (9 points) and Focus Tracking with lock-on to 3 (normal). When photographing sports where subjects are often obscured by other athletes for example at a track event select a long lock-on to maintain focus on your ...

I have and use both the D700 and D300. They are both great cameras but they are different obviously. The D700 is far superior at higher ISOs, even by ISO 800 there is a huge difference. For fast moving sports, the AF on the D700 seems a bit faster and seems to have more keepers than the D300 as well.

D700 or D300 for Wildlife and Sports? (NikonHank) - Nikonians

    https://www.nikonians.org/forum/topic/226-9841-9841/d700-or-d300-for-wildlife-and-sports-
The D700 has a greater dynamic range. The DX camera will let you use cheaper and lighter DX lenses. If you put a 1.4 TC on a lens you use bare on a D300 and use it on the d700 you will get the same FOV but it will be FX and 12 MP. You would lose 1 stop of yout 2 stop advantage over the DX format.
