Celestron Nexstar 127 Mak for astrophotography

- The 102 works surprisingly well on globular clusters and objects like the Ring Nebula, M17, etc. However, for visual, it's strengths are planets, double stars, and the moon. For imaging, it does quite well if I use a .5 focal reducer. Your 127 Mak should kick butt on the moon, planets and brighter Messiers.

- Hi, i'm looking to by the 127 Mak next year for Moon photos, i awtched a short review of the scope and the guy briefly mentioned that AZ mounts may not be the best for astrophotography. He didn't go into it at all, what are the reasons for that? I've not even held a proper mount so only have a va...

Skywatcher MAK 127 - any good? : telescopes - Reddit

- Solar system objects are generally small and require a lot of magnification (long focal length) - the Mak 127 has a long focal length of 1500mm. They're also quite bright and don't require a "fast" scope, so the Mak's f/11.8 isn't a problem. The Mak is a great scope for this. For DSO astrophotography however the Mak is a pretty poor choice.
Sky-Watcher Skymax-127 Maksutov Review - Scope Views

- In Use – Astrophotography The slow focal ratio of any Maksutov means compromises between shutter speed and ISO. The following is about the best I managed on the Moon, without any sharpening or enhancement. With its naturally large image scale, the Skymax-127 might be good for imaging smaller DSOs such as planetary nebula, but I didn’t try it.
Is it worth the extra money to get the 127 Mak vs 102 ... - Jenham's
- https://jenhams.co.uk/is-it-worth-the-extra-money-to-get-the-127-mak-vs-102-considering-image-quality/
- The 127 definitely won’t . Update: Since my first post on this topic I’ve bought a 102 Mak in the form of a Skywatcher StarQuest 102MC. There are a couple of videos on this scope on my Youtube channel. This is a lightweight OTA, and one built to a tight budget, which doesn’t include any facility to collimate, unlike the C90 and 127.
