    Yevonde worked in Lallie Charles’s Curzon Street studio for a year, learning how to handle aristocratic and sophisticated clients, constructing fictional worlds of glamour and beauty to satisfy their desires.     After World War II, Madame Yevonde returned to black and white potraiture as the Vivex was discontinued. She kept working until her death at the age of 83. Her work is now in major collections including that of the National Portrait Gallery. She famously, and rather dramatically, declared: ‘Be original or die!’ She needn’t have worried.

    BE ORIGINAL OR DIE PHOTOGRAPHS BY MADAME YEVONDE This exhibition featured 64 photographs by the celebrated Thirties society photographer. The works in the exhibition were produced from the original glass plate negatives and Vivex prints and included some of her hitherto unseen work. Born in 1893, Yevonde set up her first studio in London in 1914.
