I have a Nikon D7000 and hear it is a great low light camera . This simply means that it performs OK at higher ISO's such as ISO 1600 or 3200. It doesn't mean that the camera can change the EV. Which is to say, it is the light that determines what the EV (exposure value is).

The D7000 (when it was first released) performed Long Exposure NR for exposures slower than 8 seconds. However, starting with Firmware 1.02, the Long Exposure NR threshold was changed to 1 second. Newer revisions of the D7000 manual will reflect this new 1-second threshold. When testing for noise, be sure to turn off Active D-Lighting. Active D-Lighting works in part by …

Struggling with D7000 in low light - Digital Photography …

If Nikon chose to make the D7000's AF worse in low-light vs the current crop of FX bodies, it's because they either wanted to save money (unlikely as it's not an expensive part of the body), or they wanted an artificial way to differentiate between the pro bodies and the D7000. An example is the D300 AF unit vs the D700.

How to Force my Nikon D5000 to take a photo in low light?

    https://photo.stackexchange.com/questions/8263/how-to-force-my-nikon-d5000-to-take-a-photo-in-low-light
It's easy to check: point your camera in a dark spot (or leave the lens cap on) and click the shutter release halfway. If you see a bright light go on, you're set. If not, go into your menus and enable it. I'm not familiar with the D5000, but on the similar D90 it's in Custom Settings -> Autofocus -> Built-in AF-assist illuminator (a3).

Answer (1 of 6): if I think to remember later - I'll post some shots from my d7200 in low light. Being a person who shoots concerts sometimes I can say this: I wish I had gotten the d7200 sooner. It's not as good as a 7 series or above full frame Nikon but …

Dec 31, 2011. #7. The D200, while a great camera, is not that great in low light. Noise can be pretty bad at higher iso levels, I rarely went beyond 800 iso. In comparison the newer d7000 looks better at 3200 iso then the D200 looks at 800. Faster glass would help, f4 glass isn't ideal for indoors.
