Is 300mm Enough For Bird Photography? – A Pros Opinion
- https://birdwatchworld.com/is-300mm-enough-for-bird-photography/
- A 300mm focal length will fill the frame with a bird around 20cm tall from 4.7m away, using a camera with a 1.5x crop sensor. Most backyard birds will allow a human to approach within 4 or 5 meters. Images can also be cropped in post-processing to achieve the effect of greater zoom. Unless you have a backyard that is the size of a football ...

1.4X TC & DA*300mm for birding?: Pentax SLR Talk …
- https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3932259
- Nov 29, 2015. I just could not resist picking up the Pentax 1.4X TC when it dropped to $449 today on Amazon. I've been getting some nice pictures of birds around my house using the DA*300mm and my K-3II but wanted more reach and between this TC and the Sigma 50-500 I was considering this is the better choice I think especially at the price listed.
Beginner question: Nikon 300/4 vs 300/2.8 for Bird …
- https://www.photo.net/discuss/threads/beginner-question-nikon-300-4-vs-300-2-8-for-bird-photography.484548/
- Concerning the OP's original question, I have both of Nikon's 300mm/f4 AF-S and 300mm/f2.8 AF-S. The f2.8 is fairly big and if you want to hand hold for birds in flight, it is heavy to hold it for long. However, the f2.8 is much better for adding teleconverters to make it longer, more suitable for bird photography.
DA*300 vs 150-500 birding - Pentax
- https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/10-pentax-slr-lens-discussion/239536-da-300-vs-150-500-birding.html
- I've used the DA*300 with a Tamron 1.4 teleconverter, and the autofocus does work with that. It certainly does hunt more, but for a static subject it works well enough. When I tested a 150-500, the autofocus on that was faster than the 300 plus teleconverter, but I find the image quality of the 300 is fantastic.
300mm lens for birds ? | BirdForum

- A 300 would be a fine choice as a first lens. There are some very decent 70-300 and 100-300 zooms out there at reasonable prices. (ebay would be a good start) Your camera will operate at 1.5x because of the APS-C size sensor so a 300mm lense will operate at an effective length of 450mm without doing a thing.
