- Don't forget, the 7D has a 100%, bright viewfinder and excellent high-ISO performance, so it doesn't "require" the fastest lens available. IME, an f4 will serve your well for outdoor sports. If you expect to do a lot of indoor sports photography, then the f2.8 may be "required." The 100-300 and 100-400 lenses are excellent alternatives.
