- The Elwood turned out. to be a very good investment and made beautiful enlargements. I had to. make a few changes/purchases before I was satisfied with the enlarger. 1) I added an Aristo cold light head ($100), 2) I purchased a very. high quality 150mm Rodenstock lens, 3) I disassembled the whole.

- Re: Elwood enlarger. Tin Can -- To extend the life of a 500 Watt lamp in the Elwood for framing and focusing and even for exposing, place a 12 Volt auto lamp that normally consumes about 5 Watts of power in series with the 500 Watt lamp. This extends the life of the 500 Watt lamp by a factor of maybe 3 or 4 times.

- Elwood Enlarger. Just a thought: Mustek make a transparency adapter for their range of flatbed scanners. It gives a really even light over a 6"x8" area, and looks plenty bright enough to use in an enlarger. With a minimal amount of DIY it might make a cheap alternative to a cold-cathode head. 30-Mar-2000, 11:43 #6.

Usually used in darkrooms, these machines scale up the images on developed films and are useful for changing contrasts in specific parts of prints. Most are vertically mounted, but industrial models used for enlarging large format film are horizontal.

- With a 300mm lens on my 8x10 enlarger, making a 16x20 enlargement requires roughly 17" of bellows extension and I measured 50" from the negative plane to the paper plane. So, if you can measure the distance on your Elwood head from the negative plane to the top of the head, you should be able to get an approximation to answer the question.
