- From what I can see and surmise, the biggest drawback of the ED100 for photography would be its f/9 f/ratio, which makes it almost a stop slower than the ED80 (not a deal-breaker for me). However, keep an eye on BlueShark928's work with a 0.8 focal reducer; that brings it down to f/7.2, comparable to the f/7.5 ED80, but with an extra inch of glass.
For astrophotography: ed-100 or ed-80? - Refractors
- https://www.cloudynights.com/topic/65727-for-astrophotography-ed-100-or-ed-80/
- Start with the ED-80. The 100 will tax the mount from a weight standpoint as well as a focal length standpoint. The 80 gives a nice FOV and IMO is one of the best scope to start imaging with. And don't worry, If your focus is tight enough there is plenty of room to crop. You'd be surprised how nice an image an 80 can take.

- I have used the ED100 for planetary imaging and some of the more popular galaxies, the ED 100 has the better optics but the ED 80 is also fine. I have now purchased an Altair Astro 0.6 FF/FR and I am awaiting a suitable night to test it with the ED 80, if it works then @ f4.5 it will be fast enough imaging scope.

IceInSpace - ED80 vs ED100 for astrophotography?

- - ED80 generally wider view then the ED100 (on average 600mm vs 900mm?), great for some views such as Orion Nebula whilst not enough reach for others such as Omega Centauri (not close enough). - ED100 with it's 20mm greater aperature makes for more appealing observing scope than the ED80 (?% more light gathering power)
