I believe the D7100 uses the new Toshiba sensor, just like the D5200 does. These sensors have not yet been proven for astro use. In contrast, the D7000 uses a Sony sensor and boy these are nice and next to no noise on a 10 minute dark frame at +20c. If it were my I'd take the deal on the D7000. The D7000 is much cheaper than the newer D7100, and by saving money, I was able to spend more money on lenses. If I could do it again, I would go with a D610. Please don't buy the D7100, unless you have a lot of DX lenses. Go with the D610. It's better than all three cameras you listed, and the price isn't much higher than the D7100.

For a “first light” for the camera, astrophotography-wise, I would have to say that the D7000 has completely changed my opinion of DSLR astrophotography. Not only does the camera produce crisp, clean images that are relatively noise-free (at least compared to my previous experience with DSLR astrophotography), but the efficient use of the

D7000/D5100 for deep sky astrophotography May 1, 2011 The Orion Nebula. Hi, with very low noise, high dynamic range and high quantum efficiency, I thought that the D7000 and the D5100 (which both use the same sensor) might be good for doing some deep sky astrophotography. The above image, the first that I have tried with my D7000, seems to bear ...

The Nikon d7000 was a hit in the astrophotography field when it came out. The entire Meade ETX community loved the Nikon Cassiopeia Observatory - Report I don't know what else to say other than the d7100 replaces the d7000 But just search the internet on astrophotography and nikon d7000 d7100 and canon 70d And make your own decision.

2 Answers. You will need to use a smaller aperture (somewhere around f/4.5-5.6, slightly closed down fro the maximum aperture) because your lens isn't as fast, but you can compensate somewhat by raising the ISO a bit as well (the D7100 ought to be okay-ish at ISO 3200). 18mm is also not quite as wide on DX as 24mm on full frame, so you won't ...
