Well-known member. Jan 5, 2009. #3. If you are going to crop images the D300 would be better. For instance, a bird that's too far away shot with a 400mm lens cropped from a D300 will be sharper than the same bird cropped more strongly from a D700, because the pixels of the D300 are closer together. This makes the D700 much more sensitive to low ...

Nikon D700 Review - Photography Life

The Nikon D700 is Nikon’s first affordable full-frame (FX) camera, with 12 megapixels and amazing low light performance. I have been shooting with the Nikon D700 for the past three years, and I’m not sure why it took me so long to write a review of my favorite camera…. I guess I focused so much on testing new lenses and cameras, that the ...

elliot|1. While the D3, D3S, and D700 (and D300/D300s) all share the MultiCAM 3500 AF module, there are apparently other small differences that affect AF speed and accuracey. These differences may be subtle but they are there nonetheless. The D3/D3S to have superior AF ability over the D700 and D300/D300s.

Photography: Magnification/Crop Factor, D700 and D300

I am a 65 year old novice with a Nikon D70 and would like to upgrade and I am considering the D300 and D700 for the purpose of bird photography. I was thinking of the D300 as the correct choice but can’t get my head around DX & FX. I have a 70-200 FX lens and 2xconverter. What would be your personal choice.
