- EF 75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 III USM. YUP, that is exactly the lens I got, and by looking at what you shared I believe I made not a bad choice. The Sigma lens picture looks fantastic as well, I looked around a couple stores and I couldn't find it. Sadly. Could you let me know what was the process you took for your picture. As in frames and stacking.

- Image quality from the Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III USM Lens is also mediocre . The 75-300 III is soft wide open at all focal lengths. Sharpness decreases as it zooms from 70mm to 300mm. However, the corners are softest at 70 and getting better by 300. Corner and center softness decrease as the 75-300 III is stopped down.

- According to one poster, there is a cheap 75-300 mm version that isn't suited for astrophotography. If it is the cheap EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III, most users find the autofocus results to be soft. Even manually focusing this lens, I found it to be basically still too soft. I gave the lens away and bought the 200 2.8 which is so much better!

- Canon EOS EF 300mm f/2.8 L USM IS Astrophotography Tests. I have to admit, I was absolutely stunned at how poor the stellar images were in the new Canon 300mm f/2.8 L USM IS lens. Quite honestly flabbergasted. Canon 300mm f/2.8 Star images enlarged 500 percent. Note that the stars in the image above were taken from near the center of the field.
