- Yes, If the battery dies the shutter closes. I have one of the AE-1's also. But I have seen on a website that you can use a 6V latern battery (double check the voltage tho) and using a small piece of a wooden dowel and cut a battery sized piece and attach conductor ends to it wired to the battery you can have a much longer lasting power supply.
