The scans to me don't capture the quality of the originals, which I think is due to the thickness of the photos (which are a packet of the film, negative, emulsion and chemistry that squeezes thru rollers when ejected). If it's an image shot using an older Polaroid Land camera on peel apart film (that Fuji made) those are different quality.

I want to blow them up to 30x40" but the photo lab gives me the warning that the resolution is not high enough for a good quality print. So I looked into maybe ordering the "blow up 3" app, which also means I need to get a subscription to Photoshop.

For the highest quality photo prints, we generally recommend 300 DPI. (This is what you'll hear referred to as a "giclée" print sometimes.) However, most images will still look good and avoid pixelation at 150 DPI or above. Simply put: Don't blow up photos to more than double what the max size was at full quality.

If an image is not sharp to begin with and you blow it up it will probably not look very good. If the image is sharp, preferably shot on a solid tripod, very impressive results can be made and viewed even at close distances. The lower the ISO that the image was photographed at, the better the results.
