- For photography I would say the best time is the first three weeks in September for Fall colours and my second choice would be the end of May and early June when many of the Spring wildflowers appear in the valley and there is a good chance to encounter Grizzlies. If you want to hike up into alpine meadows then mid July to mid September are ideal.
