- So i need to pick the best one for astrophotography and/or terrestrial use (300D or 350D) in my price range (20D is too expensive for me - i have seen it "used" on sites such as amazon for £300, but i have been advised to stay away from prices that are un-reallistically low - £1000 to £300 is quite a reduction!) - Below are the two best images of the night, viewing the Milky Way, looking east. Both photos were taken using my Canon 350D with the 17-55/F2.8 lens. I opened up all the way to 2.8 and used the camera's remote control to minimize vibrations. Using the bulb setting, I exposed the first image for 17 seconds, and the second for 40.

- The 350D can expose for many minutes using the bulb setting, but without a remote shutter release, you'll have to use a method such as covering the telecope aperture for a few seconds before and after you hit the shutter button so as not to expose the initial shake and probably a few seconds before you finish the exposure.

- This was taken with a modified Canon 350D. The stock Canon camera's don't allow much of the hydrogen part of the spectrum to reach the sensor so many DSLR astrophotographers remove the IR cut filter inside the camera and have it replaced with either clear glass or a UV/IR cut filter that allows the hydrogen part of the spectrum to reach the sensor.

- This comes in very handy when shooting deep-sky astrophotography images because the camera is often in an awkward position when connected to a telescope. Tilting the screen to a more accessible angle allows me to focus the telescope using the 10X live-view function of the camera.

- In a head-to-head comparison between the 60Da and a Baader modified Canon EOS 350D, the 350D was able to record fainter details than Canon’s official astrophotography camera. I had often heard that an astro-modified DSLR could outperform the 60Da in this regard, and this test appears to have proved that.
