- Skymax-127 has excellent coatings, 33% obstruction despite being F12. John Gregory’s original Maksutov design had a focal ratio of F23. More recent designs typically have focal ratios around F15. One of the reasons I hadn’t considered the little Sky-Watcher as a travel scope is its shortish focal ratio of just under F12 (1500mm focal length).

- Solar system objects are generally small and require a lot of magnification (long focal length) - the Mak 127 has a long focal length of 1500mm. They're also quite bright and don't require a "fast" scope, so the Mak's f/11.8 isn't a problem. The Mak is a great scope for this. For DSO astrophotography however the Mak is a pretty poor choice.
