    A simple and effective way of removing light pollution is to blur the image and subtract that from the original. This only works if there are no nebulae that are large in the frame. E.g. if Milky Way core with a wide angle lens, you subtract some of the core and leave a dark halo around the Milky Way. Same with longer lenses and deep sky objects.
