Canon 1100D - Good for Astro-Imaging? - Stargazers Lounge
- https://stargazerslounge.com/topic/251241-canon-1100d-good-for-astro-imaging/
- Thanks everyone for responding. It seems that a lot of people ate using the 1000d and the 1100d. I looked around for 1100d cameras and this one supposedly is like new with all the documentation etc. I went ahead and bought it for $250 dollars. I plan on using this camera exclusively for astrophotography so plan to do the modification.

- The 1100D does have a menu function that allows manual cleaning of the front filter, by which the flip mirror goes up for cleaning, as in other models. It also has the "Dust Delete Data" function as other models. Size and weight: The 1100D is a tad heavier than the 1000D, 450D and 500D but lighter than the 550D. The 1100D is also a little larger than the 1000D by 4mm in width, 2 mm …

- if you want to do astrophotography with it (which I presume you do, since you're posting here lol) and have a laptop, BackyardEOS is the best $30-$50 you can spend in this hobby. You'll find that ISO 800 is a fairly happy place for this camera. I typically shot mine at 400 or 800 for DSOs. Unity gain for most of the EOS line is in that range.

What is the best ISO for your DSLR for astrophotography?
- 1/3 and 2/3 ISO stops. Most cameras offer steps of 1/3 to change the ISO setting. Don’t use those settings for astrophotography, always use ‘full’ ISO stops!. The camera is just scaling your images to mimic these ISO settings. For 1/3 stops, like ISO 125, the camera will simply use the analog amplification of ISO 100 and scale it ...
