- What is an apochromatic lens? The goal of the apochromatic lens is also to reduce the level of chromatic aberration. However, unlike an achromatic lens, we use three different wavelengths: red (620nm), green (530nm) and blue (465nm). The intention is the same: bringing all three wavelengths in focus in the same image plane. As you may suspect, the design tolerances are …

- An APO or apochromatic lens is usually an anonymous design feature. You may see APO on your lens. A fundamental problem with camera optics is that the light that forms the image on the film or sensor comprises a range of wavelengths. Uncorrected, using a simple lens design, these different wavelengths focus at slightly different distances relative to the film or …

- 1. Introduction of apochromatic lens. An apochromatic lens is a lens made of two optical components, a positive low refractive index (Crown) and a negative high refractive index (Flint). apochromatic lenses have various types of configurations, among which the common ones are positive apochromatic lenses, negative apochromatic lenses, triple apochromatic lenses, and …

- Achromatic lenses are used for color photography. Different colors / wavelengths of light bend differently, and an achromatic lens tries to bend as much as possible all the same. In grayscale / black-and-white photography, the colors falling off alignment slightly wasn’t noticed much.

- If there is a higher order correction, usually with the result that 3 or more visible wavelengths come to focus at the same distance, the lens is called apochromatic. Some authorities add more conditions. Apochromatic lenses often contain special low-dispersion glasses. APO is an abbreviation for apochromatic.

- I understand that these zooms are excellently corrected and a great bargain still I am interested in a prime apochromatic lens. An APO level lens should be corrected at levels that a zoom can't possibly match due to its optical design, this can be easily checked trying the lenses in astro photography.
