- Many 4x5" cameras are really 5x7" cameras with 4x5" backs, so they're not necessarily larger. 4x5" equipment, though, is much more widely available, and you have more film choices. 5x7" makes a nicer sized contact print, and would be a better choice if you want to scan with a flatbed scanner.

- want to go. I have owned the Canham 5X7 with a 4X5 back in the past and truly enjoyed the camera. I will buy it again if I decide on the 5X7 format. <p> I read with interest on the large format page the discussion with regards to 67 vs 4X5. The consensus seems to be that at 16X20 or smaller the 4X5 has a "slight" edge.

- My digital shoots 4x6 and the photo lab will print 4x6 for 39 cent. If I want 5x7 then I have to crop the 4x6 image to fit the 5x7 format, or since the lab does not know what you want cropped, they will send a roughly 5 x 6 1/2 fit to the 5 inch dimension. They are 99 cents each.

- Large Format. Aug 17, 2014. #3. The format of a Fidelity, Lisco, or Riteway 4” x 5” film holder is about 95mm x 120mm due to the edges used to retain the film in the holder. So in this case the 4” x 5” format has the aspect ratio 24:19 = 1.26. The 6 x 7cm format can vary depending on the make and model.

- Trying to choose which LF to go with took a while- 4x5 (light, cheap, common), 5x7 (light, less cheap, less film, but nice contact print size and nice ratio for those used to 35mm), or 8x10 and larger with reducing backs (nice contact prints but expensive all round, and heavy/unweildy for a backpacker/cyclist like me).
